Choosing Safe Bird Toys

When choosing safe bird toys for your pet bird you need to keep in mind if you have a large bird or a small bird. If you choose the wrong toy your bird could get seriously injured. I have a cockatiel named Beaker II who, when he was just a baby, took apart a small toy with a wire cage hanger and impaled both his bottom and top beak. He had unbent the round cage hanger so the toy ended up at the bottom of the cage, took the beads and wood blocks off and somehow got the wire stem jabbed up through both his bottom and top beak. I took him to the vet and she pulled out the wire stem and said she was done. I asked her to put some kind of glue to plug the holes in his beak and she said she didn't have any crazy glue on hand and he would be fine. He was not. Part of the bottom beak broke off and and the top beak now grows at an incredible rate. He is 8 years old now. Every month since this happened I have to take him to the vet to have his beak tended to. It is very important choose the right toys for your bird.
